Things can get messy.

You do not need to have the words for all of it before you come in. I work one to one with adults and young people from age 14 up, helping people make sense of what is happening, what they need and what comes next.

One-to-one therapy for adults and young people.

Individual therapy — adults

Sometimes there is one clear thing bringing you to therapy and sometimes life has become tangled and it is hard to know where to begin. You do not need a diagnosis, a defined problem or an explanation of what is going on. We can talk about identity, grief and loss, family dynamics, relationships and separation, changing bodies and life stages, major transitions and the moments when you are trying to work out what comes next.

If you are rebuilding after domestic and family violence, coercive control or a relationship that has worn down your sense of self, safety or confidence, therapy can offer space to make sense of what happened, reconnect with your own judgement and begin rebuilding on your terms.

Young people — age 14 up

Therapy can give you somewhere separate from family, school and everyday expectations to work out what you think, feel and need. You do not need to have everything figured out before you come in. We can talk about identity, gender and sexuality, belonging, friendships, family dynamics, changing bodies, self understanding and the pressures that can come with growing into yourself.

You are my client, so your privacy and autonomy matter. Parents or caregivers are not routinely told what we discuss and their involvement is not automatic. Before booking, there is a brief suitability enquiry so I can make sure counselling with me is the right fit and clarify any consent or caregiver involvement that may be needed.

The first session is longer on purpose: it gives us room to work out what you are after and how often to meet. Nothing is locked in and we review as we go.

Payment is due 24 hours before each appointment. If you prefer to spread the cost of a future session, a prepay by instalments option is available.

Cancellations made less than 24 hours before an appointment incur an $80 cancellation fee. The remaining $80 stays on your account as a non refundable credit toward your next session. Genuine emergencies or exceptional circumstances may be considered individually.

I work one to one only, so there is no couples work at this stage of my practice. If you are looking for that, I am glad to point you towards someone who does it well.

LGBTQIASB+ informed

You don't have to start at the beginning.

I am queer and my practice is LGBTQIASB+ informed. That means you do not need to explain the basics or translate your life before we get to what actually matters. Gender, sexuality, relationships, chosen family and identity are understood as part of a whole life, not automatically treated as the problem.

Sometimes identity is central to why you are here.
Sometimes it is simply part of the context.

How I work

01

Your pace

You do not need to have the words ready. We start where you are, and the work follows what matters to you rather than a fixed plan.

02

Plain language

No jargon and no analysing you from across the room. I will be direct, curious and clear about what I think may be useful.

03

Privacy

What you bring stays between us, within the usual limits around safety, child protection and legal requirements. I will be clear with you about those limits.

Booking takes about a minute.

01

Choose a time

My booking portal is open around the clock. Pick the session that suits you — no phone call and no waiting to hear back.

02

Confirmed instantly

Your appointment is confirmed as soon as you book. You will receive the details by text message, with reminders sent before your session.

03

Come as you are

Your first session is 90 minutes, at the same fee as an ongoing session, so we are not spending the whole appointment just getting through your history. There is time to understand what is going on and still begin the work. Ongoing sessions are a full 60 minutes.

Find a time that works for you.

See what is available, book straight away and manage your appointment in the same place if plans change.

About

Gus Hamilton

Counsellor

I am an animal lover, community builder and creative with a conscience, with a professional background spanning education, youth work and counselling. I care deeply about people, fairness and making space for lives that do not always fit neatly into the boxes they are given.

I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies and Women’s Studies, a Graduate Diploma of Education and a Diploma of Counselling. I am also registered with the Australian Counselling Association.

As part of my counselling qualification, I completed advanced study in Relationship Counselling and Conflict Resolution, Grief and Loss Counselling, Child Development and Effective Parenting, Abuse Counselling and Family Therapy.

My professional training does not enter the counselling room alone. I also bring lived experience with me. I do not assume that my experiences mirror yours, but they have shaped the way I listen, the questions I ask and the care I take not to make assumptions about someone else’s life.

Therapy with me is engaged and conversational. I am interested in you as a whole person and in understanding the context around what is happening for you now.

Questions

The things people ask first.

Still unsure? Send an enquiry — asking a question doesn't commit you to anything.

Get in touch

Not sure where to start?

Send me a short message and I will reply by email. You do not need to know exactly what you are looking for before getting in touch.

Asking a question does not commit you to booking anything. If you are ready to book, adults can go straight to the online booking portal. Young people from age 14 up can use this form to make a brief suitability enquiry first.

Your details are only used to reply to your enquiry.
